Veronelli 2027: Piemonte's 14 Stelle Polari and a Perfect Barolo

Veronelli's gold guide is out, and Piemonte has had a very good year in it. The 2027 Guida Oro I Vini di Veronelli, published by the Seminario Permanente Luigi Veronelli and announced on 4 November, names 48 Stelle Polari nationally, its top tier for wines scoring 97/100 or more. Fourteen of them are from Piemonte, and one of the edition's three perfect scores went to a Barolo.

The guide in numbers

The new edition covers 13,219 wines from 1,618 Italian producers, according to TastingLife. Its curators are Alessandra Piubello, Andrea Alpi, Gigi Brozzoni and Marco Magnoli. The Stelle Polari rise from 30 last year to 48, while the Tre Stelle Oro, the wines judged between 94 and 96 points, fall from 468 to 434.

Piemonte's 14 Stelle Polari put it second only to Toscana, which has 20, and well ahead of Alto Adige with six. In the Tre Stelle Oro list published by WineNews, 61 wines are from Piemonte. All but three of those 75 wines have their own page on Il Vino Bello, and they are linked below.

A perfect 100 for Granbussia

The three wines to score 100/100 are Aldo Conterno's Barolo Bussia Riserva Granbussia 2016, Masseto 2023 and Poggio di Sotto's Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2020. For Poderi Aldo Conterno, Granbussia is not the only top award: Romirasco 2022 is also a Stella Polare, and Cicala and Colonnello 2022 both take Tre Stelle Oro.

Piemonte's 14 Stelle Polari

Barbaresco has seven of the 14 and Barolo the other seven, with the 2023 Barbaresco crus and the 2020 Barolo Riserva wines to the fore.

Serralunga's Vigna Rionda appears twice in the top tier, and twice more among the Tre Stelle Oro, through Oddero and Luigi Pira.
