Poderi Aldo Conterno
Poderi Aldo Conterno is a family estate in the Bussia area of Monforte d'Alba. Aldo Conterno bought the Favot farm and founded the winery in 1969, after the family's earlier work at its farm in Monforte (a first Barolo reserve was bottled in 1920); today his sons Franco, Stefano and Giacomo run it. The estate has 25 hectares of vineyard at 350 to 400 metres, mostly facing south and south-west on clayey marls and limestone with layers of sand, and bottles about 90,000 a year from its own grapes only. Three Bussia crus anchor the range: Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello, each bottled alone and blended into the Granbussia Barolo Riserva. Beside them sit a Barolo Bussia, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba, a red blend and a barrel-fermented Chardonnay. Harvest is by hand from mid-September, and the reds are neither clarified nor filtered. Monforte d'Alba is one of the communes of the Barolo zone.
