Red
Marenca
By Luigi Pira, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
Marenca is the estate's iconic cru: a 2-hectare plot on a prominent, steep basin in Serralunga d'Alba, planted in 1990 on limestone-clay soil at 350 metres, south/south-west facing, giving about 9,000 bottles.
Tasting notes
Intense garnet red; the nose is fresh and complex, ranging from wild berries to vanilla and chocolate and aromatic herbs; vigorous and extract-rich on the palate, with lively but pleasant tannins softened by careful use of oak; a powerful, intriguing, long-lived Barolo.
