Franco Boasso - Gabutti
Boasso Franco Gabutti is a family farm in Serralunga d'Alba, in the Gabutti hamlet at the heart of the Barolo zone. Giuseppe Boasso started farming here after the Second World War, his son Franco built up the vines and hazelnuts, and the family began bottling wine in the mid-1980s. Today Franco and his sons Ezio and Claudio work seven hectares of vines and as many of hazelnuts.
The cellar makes three single-site or commune Barolos, Gabutti, Margheria (with a Riserva) and Serralunga d'Alba, alongside Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba Superiore, Dolcetto d'Alba, Roero Arneis and Moscato d'Asti. The Barolos age in Slavonian oak barrels for around three years. Serralunga sits on the Lequio Formation, grey marls alternating with yellow sands, soils that give this side of Barolo its firm, long-lived wines. The family also runs the I Grappoli farmhouse next to the cellar.
