Terre dei Santi
Terre dei Santi is a growers' cooperative based in Castelnuovo Don Bosco, in the hills between Asti, Turin and Alba. Its roots go back to 1953, when the Cantina Sociale del Freisa di Castelnuovo Don Bosco was founded; in 2004 it joined the Cantina del Barbera of San Damiano d'Asti to form the present cooperative. Some 140 members farm 340 hectares across three hill areas: the Chierese east of Turin, the Castelnovese in the north-west Monferrato, and the hills of San Damiano d'Asti north-east of the Roero. The range leans on local varieties: Freisa in its Asti and Chieri versions, Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Albugnano Nebbiolo, Cari and Bonarda, plus Barbera and Arneis, in still, frizzante and sparkling styles. Albugnano is the small Nebbiolo denomination of the northern Asti hills, where the vineyards climb to about 549 metres.
