Cossetti 1891

Cossetti 1891

Cossetti has been making wine at Castelnuovo Belbo, in the Asti hills of Monferrato, since Giovanni Cossetti turned the family farm into a winery in 1891. Clementina Cossetti now runs it as the fourth generation, with her mother Maria Emma and sister Giulia. The core is the San Colombano property of about 30 hectares, with vines averaging 30 years old, mostly Barbera and Moscato plus Albarossa, Cortese, Dolcetto, Brachetto and Chardonnay. The best plot, Crivelletto, on sandy marl facing south to south-east, gives the Nizza wines. Grapes for Gavi, Roero and Langhe bottlings come from those areas. The range runs from Gelsomora everyday wines to Barolo, Barbaresco, Nizza Riserva, Alta Langa and sweet Moscato and Brachetto. Castelnuovo Belbo sits on the Belbo river in the province of Asti.
