Marine sedimentary soils of the Helvetian era (Tertiary): alternating strata of white limestone, grey marl, blue marl and sand.
Vinification
Made only from old-vine fruit, with submerged-cap maceration of 80 to 90 days and very long ageing in oak, concrete and ceramic, sometimes twice as long as the standard bottling of the same wine. Released 15 to 20 years after the harvest, in very limited quantities of a few hundred bottles; recent vintages carry a black label.
