Pasquale Pelissero

Pasquale Pelissero

Pasquale Pelissero is a family winery at Cascina Crosa in Neive, run by Ornella Pelissero with her son Simone, who trained as an oenologist. Her grandfather Giuseppe and his brother Giovanni bought the farmstead in 1921, and her father Pasquale bottled the first Barbaresco Cascina Crosa in 1971. The estate farms eight hectares in one block around the cascina, among them the San Giuliano cru, where a small brick ciabot stands among the rows; Barbaresco from it has carried the San Giuliano name again since the 2007 harvest. Only estate grapes are vinified, and the Barbaresco ages in large French oak casks rather than barriques. The cellar makes about 45,000 bottles a year, and 60 percent go abroad. Beyond Barbaresco the range includes Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera, Freisa, Dolcetto, Arneis, Favorita, a Nebbiolo rosé, Alta Langa and Moscato d'Asti. Neive is one of the communes of the Barbaresco DOCG, a short drive from Alba.
