Bersano
Bersano has made wine in Nizza Monferrato since 1907. Arturo Bersano founded the house; after his death it passed to the Massimelli family, first Ugo and now his daughter Federica with her sisters and son. The company farms 230 hectares across Monferrato and Langhe, split between ten cascine. Barbera for Nizza comes from Cremosina and Generala, Ruchè and Grignolino from Castagnole Monferrato, Brachetto and Moscato from the Asti hills, and Nebbiolo for Barolo from Cascina Badarina in Serralunga d'Alba, bought in 1968. The range runs from Barolo and Barbaresco through Nizza, Barbera d'Asti, Gavi and Roero Arneis to a Metodo Classico Pinot Nero line called Arturo. The Musei Bersano in the historic Nizza Monferrato cellars hold the rural-life collection Arturo Bersano assembled. Nizza Monferrato sits on the Belbo river, roughly 30 km south of Asti, in the heart of Barbera country.
