Cantina Sant'Evasio

Cantina Sant'Evasio

Cantina Sant'Evasio has worked the San Nicolao hill above Nizza Monferrato since the 1960s, when Carlo Lacqua took over the old cascina and its vineyards. His son Pier Franco modernised the estate from 1982, and it is now a family affair: Pier Franco and his wife Anna, joined by their oenologist son Andrea since 1996 and daughter Emanuela since 2001. Ten hectares of vines surround the winery on the San Nicolao cru, and Barbera has always been the estate's main grape, made both as a young, fresh wine and as a barrique-aged Superiore. The family also bottles Nizza DOCG from an 80-year-old vineyard, along with Barolo, Gavi, Langhe Arneis, an Alta Langa spumante and a small range of other Piemonte whites and sweet wines. Nizza Monferrato sits in the Monferrato hills of Asti province, one of the historic homelands of Barbera.
