Serra dei Turchi
By Poderi Gianni Gagliardo, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
Serra dei Turchi is the winery's founding Barolo plot, purchased by founder Paolo Colla in 1961 in the commune of La Morra, marking the family's entry into Barolo. It is made from two contiguous but distinct parcels, one warm and shallow, one cooler and more fertile, harvested separately and aged in a single 228-litre cask; only a limited numbered run of magnums is produced.
Tasting notes
Passion flower, guarana, hibiscus, karkade, mandarin peel, pink grapefruit, lemongrass, geranium, magnolia, gardenia, white musk, face powder, talc, crumbled chalk and medicinal herbs. Medium body, perfectly ripe tannins and a graceful, essential finish.
Pairs well with
Pan-seared beef medallions with pomegranate sauce (Italy), herb-roasted boneless pork loin chops with raspberry sauce (USA), deep-fried pork in sweet and sour sauce (Asia).
