Monvigliero
By Poderi Gianni Gagliardo, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
Monvigliero is considered one of the best MGAs in Barolo, an amphitheatre-shaped, south-facing cru in Verduno with loose soils near the Tanaro river; it is protected from excessive sun and consistently in impeccable health, and production is strictly limited.
Tasting notes
Ethereal and slightly herbal, with dried roses, raspberry compote, geranium and hibiscus on the nose; full body with ripe, enveloping tannins and great progression.
Pairs well with
Spaghetti with oven-baked cherry tomatoes and sausage (Italy), turkey brine (UK), clubhouse sandwich (USA), sticky Chinese five-spice chicken (Asia).
