Ca' del Baio
Ca' del Baio is a family estate in Treiso, in the Barbaresco zone, working since 1870. Four generations of the Grasso family have looked after the vineyards that surround the farmhouse, and today Giulio and Luciana run vineyard, cellar, hospitality and sales with their daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica. Every wine comes from estate-grown grapes, one wine for each piece of land.
The Barbaresco range is built on single vineyards: Asili, Pora, Vallegrande and Autinbej, with Riserva bottlings of Asili and of old-vine Vallegrande. Alongside them are two Langhe Nebbiolos, Barbera d'Alba Paolina, Dolcetto d'Alba Lodoli, a Riesling called Fré, three Langhe Chardonnays and a Moscato d'Asti. Treiso is the highest of the Barbaresco villages, with cooler air than the hills nearer the Tanaro.

Wines from Ca' del Baio
- Asili: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. The vineyard where Ca' del Baio's story began: Asili holds the fruit of the estate's oldest vines in an elegant, refined Barbaresco.
- Asili Riserva: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. The Grasso family's reserve bottling from Asili, one of Barbaresco's most prestigious hills, aged over three years before release.
- Autinbej: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. A tribute to Giulio Grasso's late father Ernesto, who used the Piemontese word "autinbej" to describe the best vineyard exposures; the wine unites Nebbiolo from several favoured plots in one bottling, in the old style.
- BricdelBaio: Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo, Red. BricdelBaio draws on the estate's best Nebbiolo sites outside the Barbaresco crus, distilling the Grasso family's production philosophy into an approachable Langhe Nebbiolo.
- Fré: Langhe DOC Riesling, Rhine Riesling, White. The family's long-held passion for Riesling, produced for the first time in Ca' del Baio's history from a cool, breezy plot in Ferrere.
- Lodoli: Dolcetto d'Alba DOC, Dolcetto, Red. Lodoli, grown in the Vallegrande and Marcarini crus of Treiso, is Ca' del Baio's everyday Dolcetto, a symbol of simplicity.
- Luna d'Agosto: Langhe DOC Chardonnay, Chardonnay, White. Luna d'Agosto is made from grapes harvested early, in the first weeks of September, for a fresh, fruity Chardonnay that recalls summer.
- Moscato d'Asti: Moscato d'Asti DOCG, Moscato Bianco, Sweet. Made from grapes grown on the estate's historic plot number 101, this is Ca' del Baio's traditional festive wine.
- Paolina: Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera, Red. Paolina blends fruit from several Treiso vineyards into a fresh, soft expression of Barbera.
- Pora: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Made almost as a challenge, Pora comes from one of Barbaresco's most extensive and long-lived historic crus, first vinified separately by the estate in 2004.
- R.L.: Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo, Red. R.L. is a fresh, easy-drinking Nebbiolo from younger vineyards, selected across several plots to revive an old estate tradition.
- Sermine: Langhe DOC Chardonnay, Chardonnay, White. Sermine comes from mature Chardonnay vines, giving a wine of real structure and complexity, international by nature but Piedmontese at heart.
- Valentìne: Langhe DOC Chardonnay, Chardonnay, White. Valentìne is Valentina Grasso's personal project, born from time spent working the 2013 harvest at Domaine de Montille in Meursault, and made from the estate's oldest Chardonnay vines using Burgundian technique.
- Vallegrande: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. The estate's most traditional-style Barbaresco, grown on the vineyards surrounding the winery and aged, as in the past, exclusively in large casks.
- Vallegrande Riserva Viti Vecchie: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Launched with the 2018 vintage from the estate's oldest vineyards surrounding the winery, this Riserva is the densest, most tannic expression of the Grasso family's winemaking, a tribute to Treiso itself.
