La Chiara
La Chiara is a family winery in Gavi, in the Val Lemme where Piemonte meets Liguria. Ferdinando Bergaglio, his son Roberto and Roberto's wife Silvana Figini founded it in 1976, and the Bergaglio family has worked the same land for three generations. All 28 hectares of vineyard lie within the commune of Gavi. Gavi DOCG del Comune di Gavi is the flagship, bottled as the classic, Etichetta Nera and the Groppella vineyard selection. The range also includes a Timorasso from the Colli Tortonesi, sparkling wines, Monferrato reds, a sweet white from overripe grapes and grappa. Exports go to Japan, the United States, Russia and several European countries. The estate hosts weddings and events in a renovated hall for up to 160 guests, and rents a guesthouse among the vines.
