Vignarionda

By Ettore Germano, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy

Ettore Germano Vignarionda

Vignarionda, the cru the estate calls "the Barolo that stands apart," comes from young, 10-year-old vines on very calcareous marl at 330 metres, ageing 18 to 24 months in barrel and over 20 more in bottle.

Tasting notes

Intense, deep and bright garnet red, it shows a nose of ripe fruit, sweet spice and balsamic notes, with a finesse and delicacy linked to the light sand content of the soil. On the palate it is full, rich and dense, with structured but elegant tannins, and pairs well with delicate meats, filled pasta and aged cheeses.

Vinification
The grapes are crushed but not destemmed, in upright steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation takes place with about 30 to 40 days of skin contact and daily pump overs. After pressing off and malolactic fermentation, the wine goes into roughly 2,000 litre barrels, where it ages for 18 to 24 months, followed by bottling and over 20 further months in bottle before release.
