Paitin
Paitin is a family winery in Neive (CN), in the Barbaresco denomination of the Langhe, run by the Pasquero-Elia family for eight generations since Benedetto Elia purchased the Sori vineyard on the Bricco di Neive (today's Serraboella cru) in 1796. In 1893 Giuseppe Elia was among the first four producers to label a wine as Barbaresco, from the family's Sori Paitin plot. The estate introduced organic viticulture around the year 2000 and certified its organic practices in 2015 (IT BIO 015-2483). Paitin preserves classic Piemontese Nebbiolo sub-varietals (Lampia, Rose, Michet) and follows traditional Piemontese vinification techniques, with long macerations and ageing.

Wines from Paitin
- Basarin: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Basarin, first vinified separately by Paitin in 2018 (the year of acquisition), comes from the bend where the hill turns from south-east to south above the Moretta hamlet, at the crossroads of Neive, Treiso and…
- Bonina: Langhe DOC Freisa, Freisa 100%, Red. Bonina revives Paitin's historic Freisa: Giuseppe Elia owned Freisa vines vinified by his son Secondo until 1968, and production resumed only in 2018, after 60 years, on the decision of Secondo's sons Giovanni and…
- Ca Veja: Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Ca Veja takes its name from a small hamlet in the Rivoli area south of Alba; although Nebbiolo was produced on this hill for centuries, Paitin's first harvest from the vineyard was in 1998 after a major replant in 1995.
- Campolive: Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. Campolive comes from a steep plot on the border between Serraboella and Bricco di Neive, historically named 'campo dell'oliva' by monks who once owned the site; Paitin has produced this Barbera since acquiring the…
- Elisa: Roero Arneis DOCG, Arneis 100%, White. Elisa is named for Elisa Elia, who tended Paitin's only Roero vineyard, in Varinere di Priocca; her son Secondo first vinified the grapes under her name only after her death in 1973.
- Faset: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Faset, first produced by Paitin in 2019, comes from two plots in the Faset cru, once owned by the Cocito counts of Neive: one facing full south, one south-west, natural continuations of neighbouring Asili Valdrappo.
- Rivoli: Dolcetto d'Alba DOC, Dolcetto 100%, Red. Paitin's first Dolcetto dates back to 1893, the year of its first Barbaresco. The Rivoli name was introduced in 2018 after the historic Sorì Paitin vineyard, used for Dolcetto under the Sorì Paitin name since the…
- Serra: Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera 100%, Red. Serra is the fresher, more delicate slope of Serraboella that Paitin has long dedicated to Barbera; the Serra name was first used on a label in 1985, and in recent years a small portion of the fruit also comes from the…
- Serraboella: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Serraboella blends fruit from two plots within Paitin's namesake cru in Neive: the more mineral, rugged 'd Tourun plot bordering the Bricco, and the finer, more sheltered Schiena d'Ernestin plot. It has been vinified…
- Sorì Paitin: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Sorì Paitin is Paitin's flagship Barbaresco from the historic Sorì Paitin plot, the warmest slope of the Serraboella hill, owned by the Pasquero-Elia family since 1796 and first labelled as Barbaresco in 1893.
- Starda: Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Starda takes its name from an ancient family of notaries and a small street at the foot of Serraboella. It blends Nebbiolo from the lower, sandier parts of Serraboella and, in recent years, the sandier part of Ca Veja;…
- Vecchie Vigne: Barbaresco Riserva DOCG, Nebbiolo 100%, Red. Vecchie Vigne is Paitin's old-vine Barbaresco Riserva from the Sorì Paitin plot in Serraboella, made from a selezione massale planted by Secondo Pasquero Elia between 1948 and 1953. Only one barrel is produced each year.
