Gigi Rosso
Gigi Rosso trained at the Alba school of oenology, worked for Cinzano, Fontanafredda, Barbero and Bersano, and in 1971 founded his own winery, releasing his first Barolo in 1974. His son Maurizio now looks after the estate's roughly 12 hectares and has added new vineyards and wines, from Bricco San Pietro in Monforte d'Alba to Barbera d'Asti from the Nizza area. Other plots sit in Serralunga d'Alba, in Roddino (Bricco del Cavallo) and in Diano d'Alba (Sorì del Moncolombetto). The cellar is underground in Castiglione Falletto, where fermentation is spontaneous and Barolo rests for years in large untoasted Slavonian oak casks, while Dolcetto stays out of wood. The list runs from Barolo and Barbaresco to Dolcetto, Barbera, Arneis, Chardonnay and Moscato. Castiglione Falletto is one of the villages where Barolo is made, and the Langhe vineyards have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014.
