Gianfranco Bovio
Bovio is a family cellar in the Annunziata hamlet of La Morra, now run by its third and fourth generations. Alessandro Bovio made wine on a small scale in the 1950s and 60s. His son Gianfranco, a restaurateur in the village, began renovating the cellar in the 1970s and released the first Nebbiolo in 1976. Daughter Alessandra and her husband Marco took over in 2014, and granddaughter Elisa joined in 2023. The range covers Dolcetto, Barbera, Langhe Nebbiolo and a barrique-fermented Chardonnay, a Barbaresco from Treiso, and a run of Barolos: a La Morra blend, single-vineyard bottlings from Arborina, Gattera, Rocchettevino and Parussi in Castiglione Falletto, and two Riservas. Macerations are long, ageing is in large oak, and the vineyards are worked without pesticides or herbicides. La Morra is one of the eleven communes of the Barolo zone, and Castiglione Falletto is another.
