F.lli Rovero
Rovero is a family estate in San Marzanotto, a village on the hills just outside Asti. The chapel from 1880 still stands in the middle of a cluster of farm buildings around a large courtyard, with the distillery and grappa cellar there and the winery and wine ageing rooms on the opposite hill among the vines. The last two generations, brothers Franco, Claudio and Michelino with Michelino's son Enrico, run it. The whole farm has been organic for years and is ICEA certified, and the estate also makes honey and grape juices. The wine range leans on Monferrato varieties: Barbera d'Asti in several styles, including Rouvè from a vineyard planted in 1967, plus Grignolino, Nebbiolo, Sauvignon, Pinot Nero, a Bordeaux-style blend, sweet Moscato and Brachetto, and two chinati. Asti sits in the Monferrato hills, where Barbera is the leading red variety.
