Cocchi
Giulio Cocchi set up in Asti in 1891 as a distiller and sparkling wine maker, after arriving from Florence as a pastry chef. The house made its name with aromatised wines, Barolo Chinato, Americano and a run of vermouths, and once had a dozen tasting bars across Piemonte. Since 1978 it has belonged to the Bava family, winemakers in Monferrato and Langhe, and it works from Cocconato in the Asti hills. Today's range spans Alta Langa metodo classico, including a pure Chardonnay, a rosé, an organic Extra Brut and the zero-dosage Espressione pair, plus Piemonte DOC Brut, Asti, Brachetto d'Acqui and vermouths still made to the founder's formulas. Cocconato sits in the Monferrato hills in the province of Asti.
