Cantina del Nebbiolo
Cantina del Nebbiolo is a growers' cooperative in Vezza d'Alba, on the Roero side of the Tanaro along the old Alba-Turin road. Twenty-three families started it in 1959, and today around 180 member households tend some 340 hectares, most of it in the Roero hills with smaller holdings reaching into Barbaresco, Barolo, Dolcetto and Moscato country. Each member's grapes are kept and vinified separately rather than blended into one house style, and a few parcels are farmed organically for dedicated bottlings. The range is built entirely on native Piedmontese varieties, from crisp Arneis and Favorita whites to age-worthy Nebbiolo reds, including single-vineyard Barolo from the Perno hamlet and Barbaresco from the Meruzzano cru. The Roero itself is younger and sandier than the Langhe across the river, a difference that shows up as freshness in its white wines.
