Grignolino d'Asti
By Dogliotti 1870, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
A Grignolino d'Asti DOC made from 100% Grignolino, kept briefly in steel and best drunk young.
Tasting notes
Pale ruby red with light purple reflections, turning orange with age. Not very intense but pleasantly fruity on the nose, in particular wild berries, with a floral note recalling field flowers. Dry, austere and full-bodied on the palate, of moderate acidity, lightly tannic with an almond aftertaste; ageing brings a certain softness. Recommended in a large, wide glass suited to young reds.
Pairs well with
An all-purpose wine, excellent with delicate starters, spiced cured meats, eggs, soups, dry pasta and risottos, tortellini and meatless ravioli in broth, pasta with cheese sauces, poultry, white meats, grilled meats, and fresh or semi-aged cheeses; its spiciness also suits fatty fish dishes.
