Barbera d'Asti Superiore
By Dogliotti 1870, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
A Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG made from 100% Barbera, aged one year in wood before bottling.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red turning to garnet with age. Vinous and intense on the nose, with notes of ripe fruit, jam and tobacco. Dry, warm, full-bodied on the palate, lightly tannic, powerful and distinctive, with the marked acidity typical of Barbera d'Asti; great structure and persistence. Recommended in a balloon glass.
Pairs well with
Accompanies a whole meal, especially cured meats when young, traditional Piemontese dishes such as vitello tonnato and bagnetto verde, meat agnolotti, risottos, pasta with meat or mushroom sauce, polenta, grilled or roasted white and red meats, braises, stews, cotechino and zampone, roast lamb and kid, oily fish such as eel, carp, tuna and mackerel, and spicy or hard cheeses.
