Generaj

Generaj

Generaj is a family estate in Montà, in the Roero hills on the left bank of the Tanaro north of Alba, run by descendants of an ancestor known as the General, born in 1817 in the same Borgata Tucci where the cellar still stands. Giuseppe Pinòtu Viglione built the modern wine business from the 1940s, and today his grandson Giuseppe Beppe Viglione leads the estate, joined by his wife Silvia and daughters Alessia and Cecilia, the family eighth generation on the land. They farm 22 hectares, 12 of them planted with the native Roero varieties Arneis, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Bonarda and Bragat Rosa across the Tucci and Sterlotti vineyards, and have worked without chemical herbicides for years, certified since 2023 under the national S.Q.N.P.I. integrated production scheme. Roero itself sits on younger, sandier soils than the neighbouring Langhe, where erosion has carved the region’s distinctive Rocche ravines into the hillsides.
