Brunate
By Poderi Marcarini, Barolo, Piemonte, Italy
Barolo Brunate is Marcarini's Barolo from the Brunate cru, a zone recognised as one of the Langhe's most important crus since the 1300s and on Marcarini's labels since 1958; the family has farmed a considerable part of the Brunate vineyards for several generations.
Tasting notes
Magnificent garnet-red with intense ruby-red reflections. The nose is composite, rich, full and persistent, with hints of vanilla, tobacco, sweet spices, mountain hay and underbrush. The palate is imperious, noble, warm and velvety, with a long, intense flavour.

- 4,000 vines/ha, free-standing espalier with Guyot pruning, rootstocks Kober 5BB and 420A, planted 1978-1987, 4.5 hectares under vine. Estate-wide, Marcarini's vineyards are pruned to limit yield, maintained with organic composting and controlled grassing over of the rows, and vine diseases are treated with traditional methods.
- Vinification
- Grapes are picked when fully and perfectly ripe, with careful selection of the bunches used since 2015. Fermentation is strictly controlled and the must macerates on the skins for at least four weeks; after malolactic fermentation the wine ages in medium-sized oak barrels (20-40 hl) for at least two years.
