Piculin

By Abbona, Dogliani, Piemonte, Italy

Abbona Piculin

The estate's newest wine, Piculin is the result of a long drying of the grapes in the vineyard and cellar, followed by an equally long ageing in oak, balancing freshness, acidity and sweetness.

Tasting notes

A strongly varietal Moscato passito, with clear notes of honey, white flowers, acacia, lime blossom and chamomile; warm and full on the palate, with sweet, sugary notes set against a delicate but present streak of acidity, plus a light spiced note from ageing in tonneau.

Pairs well with

A meditation and dessert wine: small pastries, hazelnut or almond biscuits, apple tart and strudel, as well as rich mature or blue cheeses.

Gently pressed, static settling and racking with inoculated selected yeasts, followed by alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks and transfer to oak barrels. No malolactic fermentation. Aged in oak barrels for a long period, then blended in steel and bottled, resting in bottle at a constant 14°C for a few months before release.
