Abbona
Abbona is a family estate in Dogliani, now run by the third generation after founder Celso Abbona and his sons Marziano and Enrico, with Marziano's daughters Mara and Chiara also part of the team today. The family farms 52 hectares of its own vines across Dogliani, Monforte d'Alba and Novello, including dolcetto plots planted more than fifty years ago. The range runs from Dogliani DOCG bottlings and Langhe reds to single-vineyard Barolo from the Pressenda, Ravera and Cerviano-Merli crus, a Treiso Barbaresco, Roero Arneis, and estate-grown pinot nero and chardonnay used for Alta Langa and other classic-method sparkling wines. Vineyard work favours grassing between the rows and avoids systemic pesticides. Dogliani is the Langhe appellation most closely tied to the dolcetto grape, in the hills southwest of Alba.

Wines from Abbona
- Alta Langa Extra Brut: Alta Langa DOCG, Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, Sparkling. The estate's first Alta Langa, released from the 2014 vintage, made from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay planted more than twenty years ago and concentrated enough for a fresh, aromatic sparkling wine of real persistence.
- Alta Langa Extra Brut Rosé: Alta Langa DOCG, Pinot Nero, Sparkling. Rows of Pinot Nero have grown in the estate's vineyards for more than twenty years, giving fruit concentrated enough for this fresh, aromatic Alta Langa rosé.
- Barbaresco: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. One of the Langhe's most prestigious and well-known wines, made from Nebbiolo grapes grown northeast of Alba, along the Tanaro river; powerful without ever being overbearing, an important, convivial wine, refined and…
- Barolo: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Made from grapes grown in Perno, a small hamlet between Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba, this Barolo has great finesse on the nose, power and a high alcohol level.
- Bricco Barone: Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC, Nebbiolo, Red. Bricco Barone is a favoured spot in the hills of Monforte d'Alba's Rinaldi hamlet, where this robust, long-lived Nebbiolo d'Alba is grown.
- Casaret: Langhe DOC Barbera, Barbera, Red. A youthful, easygoing Barbera with a convivial character, versatile enough to suit any point in the meal.
- Cerviano-Merli: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Grown in the Cerviano-Merli cru that gives it its name, on a south-facing slope, this Barolo has notable structure and depth, revealing its aromas slowly over time; a wine meant for ageing.
- Chloris: Langhe DOC Riesling, Riesling, White. Chloris sets out to show what the Langhe's soils can do with Riesling: a wine of strong varietal character on the nose and good minerality on the palate, named for the sparrow on its label, again the work of artist…
- Cinerino: Langhe DOC Bianco, Viognier, White. Cinerino grew out of the Abbona family's encounter with the Viogniers of the Rhone Valley, and the wish to bring that quality to their own hills; the name comes from the heron that occasionally stops at the small lake…
- Garombello: Langhe DOC Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo, Red. An easy-drinking Nebbiolo with fruit and freshness balanced by soft, barely perceptible tannins, from a vineyard and ageing that highlight the purity of the grape.
- I Due Ricu: Langhe DOC Rosso, Pinot Nero, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Red. Dedicated to the family's two Ricu, as the Enricos are known, Marziano's uncle and brother, this wine blends two classic local grapes, Nebbiolo and Barbera, with Pinot Nero; an important, rare wine made in just a few…
- Marcarini: Barbaresco DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. A single-vineyard Barbaresco from the Treiso cru, first produced in the 2021 vintage in a run of about 3,000 bottles, with an important structure and enveloping, ripe tannins.
- Papà Celso: Dogliani DOCG, Dolcetto, Red. The estate's symbolic wine, dedicated to the memory of Celso Abbona, who planted the Doriolo vineyard vine by vine. It is Abbona's most important Dogliani, made from vines over 60 years old that give the wine a balance…
- Piculin: Vino Bianco da Uva Stramatura, Moscato 100%, Sweet. The estate's newest wine, Piculin is the result of a long drying of the grapes in the vineyard and cellar, followed by an equally long ageing in oak, balancing freshness, acidity and sweetness.
- Pressenda: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Pressenda is a striking vineyard facing the castle of Serralunga, in the township of Monforte d'Alba; a Barolo built for long ageing, kept approachable by a natural acidity that refreshes the palate.
- Ravera: Barolo DOCG, Nebbiolo, Red. Ravera is Novello's most celebrated cru, source of the area's best Barolo; this wine has a superior balance of towering body and depth, noble tannin, fruity and spiced aromas, and very good drinkability.
- Rinaldi: Barbera d'Alba DOC, Barbera, Red. Grown in Monforte d'Alba's Rinaldi hamlet, which gives the wine its name, this Barbera has a decisive, powerful character balanced by a pleasant freshness.
- Rosato: Langhe DOC Rosato, Nebbiolo, Rosé. Made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the estate's youngest vines, Rosato is a way to discover the grape's gentler, more playful side; a fragrant, fresh companion for summer days.
- San Luigi: Dogliani DOCG, Dolcetto, Red. Grown in the San Luigi hamlet where the winery itself stands, this Dogliani is fresh and easy to drink while keeping the body and elegance of a serious red. Fruity and fragrant, it is an everyday wine that can still…
- Tistin: Roero Arneis DOCG, Arneis, White. Arneis is the king of Roero's white wines: straightforward and easy-going, with a vibrant personality drawn from the sandy soils where the grapes grow.
- Valle dell'Olmo: Langhe DOC Favorita, Favorita, White. Favorita is a long-established grape that does well in these hills; fragrant and appealing, with a very fresh, floral nose.
- VSQ Brut: Metodo Classico V.S.Q., Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, Sparkling. Rows of Pinot Nero and Chardonnay have grown in the estate's vineyards for more than twenty years, giving fruit concentrated enough for a fresh, aromatic classic-method sparkling wine.
- Zerosolfiti: Langhe DOC Rosso, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Red. A radically innovative wine, Zerosolfiti is the result of meticulous work on grape quality and winemaking: no added sulfites, minimal vineyard treatments, and a thorough washing of the grapes before crushing to remove…
