I Due Ricu

By Abbona, Dogliani, Piemonte, Italy

Abbona I Due Ricu

Dedicated to the family's two Ricu, as the Enricos are known, Marziano's uncle and brother, this wine blends two classic local grapes, Nebbiolo and Barbera, with Pinot Nero; an important, rare wine made in just a few thousand bottles.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red, with aromas of plum and chocolate; broad and full-bodied on the palate, with fresh acidity and a long, persistent finish.

Pairs well with

Special dishes, aged cheeses and game.

Vinification
Crushed and destemmed, then spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts in contact with the skins in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Dry racking and transfer to 500-litre oak barrels; each variety is vinified separately. Malolactic fermentation carried out entirely in barrel immediately after alcoholic fermentation. Aged in barrel for a long period, separately for each variety, then blended in steel and bottled, resting in bottle at a constant 14°C for a few months before release.
