Pertinace

Pertinace is a growers' cooperative based in Treiso, in the Barbaresco zone of the Langhe, founded in 1973 when Mario Barbero and a group of local vine growers pooled their land and know-how. What began as thirteen members has grown to twenty today, farming about 110 hectares across Treiso, Barbaresco, Alba, Neviglie, Piobesi d'Alba and Magliano Alfieri in the province of Cuneo, plus a plot in Agliano Terme in the Asti hills. Nebbiolo is the house strength: alongside a classic Barbaresco DOCG the cellar releases three single vineyard MGA crus, Castellizzano, Marcarini and Nervo, each aged separately for up to eighteen months in large Slavonian oak casks. The range continues through Barolo, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto to a few whites and a sparkling Alta Langa, farmed under the Equalitas and SQNPI sustainability standards. Treiso is one of the four communes of the Barbaresco DOCG, prized for some of the appellation's highest, coolest vineyards, a short drive from Alba.

  • Alta Langa: Alta Langa DOCG, Pinot Nero 70%, Chardonnay 30%, Sparkling. A white sparkling wine made with the traditional (Champenois) method from the estate's own Pinot Nero and Chardonnay grapes.
