F.lli Facchino

F.lli Facchino

F.lli Facchino is a family estate at Rocca Grimalda, in the Alto Monferrato hills of Alessandria province. Giorgio Facchino, later awarded the title Cavaliere del Lavoro, arrived here from the province of Benevento in 1958 and bought the Valle del Prato farm, then 7.5 hectares of vines. Today his son Carmine runs the estate with his wife Maria Teresa and their sons Giorgio and Diego, who have brought in newer winemaking equipment alongside the family's older methods; harvest is still done by hand. The vineyards sit on the pale, calcareous soils the area calls the Terre Bianche di Ovada, and give wines built on Dolcetto, Barbera, Cortese, Chardonnay, Moscato, Albarossa and Nebbiolo, led by Dolcetto di Ovada in both DOC and DOCG form. Rocca Grimalda lies in the same Alto Monferrato hills that give Dolcetto di Ovada DOCG its name, one of only two Dolcetto DOCGs in Piemonte, not far from the Ligurian border.
