Campo Romano
By Poderi Colla, Langhe, Piemonte, Italy
Campo Romano is a pure Pinot Noir planted in 1977 at Cascine Drago with vines brought directly from Burgundy, following Tino Colla's winemaking studies there (no Pinot Noir shoots were available in Piedmontese nurseries at the time). It is named after Roman remains, bricks, tiles and amphorae, uncovered when the vineyard was planted.
Tasting notes
Delicate garnet red; fine nose with aromas of griotte, tobacco, spices. Ripe fruit flavours in the mouth, fresh, round tannins well integrated into the body of the wine, with good ageing potential.
Pairs well with
Agnolotti and roast poultry
