Cascina Cà Nova Ghemme Riserva

Ghemme DOCG Riserva, 100% Nebbiolo aged 36 months in French oak and at least 24 months in bottle, about 14% ABV. The 2015 vintage produced about 2,700 bottles plus 180 magnums.

Tasting notes

Deep, very intense garnet red fading at the rim. Very intense aromas of jam, tobacco, liquorice, violet and medicinal herbs, with a distinct mineral vein. Full bodied with great drinkability, firm tannin, freshness and great length.

Pairs well with

Red meat dishes, Piedmontese mixed fry (fritto misto), and aged or blue veined cheeses.

Historic hills of the Ghemme DOCG zone, Alto Piemonte; fruit from the estate's roughly 6-hectare vineyard planted in 2000 at Romagnano Sesia, which supplied the Ghemme and Ghemme Riserva through the 2023 harvest.
Soil
Acidic pH soil, clayey and sandy, with rocks and minerals of glacial origin.
Exposure
South east/south west facing, about 300 m altitude, guyot trained, about 1 kg of grapes per plant.

Early October (2015 vintage).
Vineyard planting
Planted in 2000.
Vinification
Ferments in steel tanks with 20 days of maceration on the skins; malolactic fermentation in oak the following spring; aged 36 months in 24 hl French oak barrels and at least 24 months in bottle before release.
