Cascina Cà Nova Ghemme

Ghemme DOCG made from 100% Nebbiolo, aged 24 months in French oak and at least 24 months in bottle, about 13.5% ABV. The 2014 and 2015 vintages produced roughly 4,000 to 7,000 bottles each.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red fading to garnet at the rim. Very intense nose of marasca cherry and green tobacco, balsamic and violet tones, with a distinct mineral vein. Full bodied and soft on the palate, delicate tannin, fresh, mineral and very persistent.

Pairs well with

Red meat dishes, game, and aged or blue veined cheeses.

Acidic pH soil, clayey and sandy.
Exposure
South east/south west facing, about 300 m altitude, guyot trained, about 1 kg of grapes per plant.

Mid October (2014 and 2015 vintages).
Vineyard planting
Planted in 2000.
Vinification
After destemming and crushing, the wine ferments in steel tanks with 20 days of maceration on the skins; malolactic fermentation in oak the following spring; aged 24 months in 50 hl French oak barrels and at least 24 months in bottle before release.
