Giancarlo Travaglini
Travaglini has worked these hills since 1920, when Clemente Travaglini began estate winemaking in the centre of Gattinara. His grandson Giancarlo took over in 1958, designed the estate's distinctive curved bottle, and pushed early research into the vineyards and cellar. Cinzia Travaglini and Massimo Collauto have led the winery since 2004, joined by the family's fifth generation, Alessia and Carolina, in 2019.
Every wine grows from Nebbiolo, vinified plot by plot across more than half a dozen labels: the flagship Gattinara DOCG, the three-vineyard blend Tre Vigne, an aged Riserva and its single-vineyard Vigna Ronchi, the dried-grape Il Sogno, the lees-aged sparkling Nebolè, Coste della Sesia DOC Nebbiolo, and the everyday red Cinzia. Gattinara itself, at the foot of Monte Rosa, is one of Piemonte's oldest denominations, DOC since 1967 and DOCG since 1990, its hillsides resting on rare volcanic soil.
