Cascina Barisél
Cascina Barisél is a family farm in Canelli, in the province of Asti, bought by Enrico Penna in 1965. His son Franco, who runs it today as Azienda Agricola di Penna Franco, began bottling under the estate name in 1985 after rebuilding the vineyards and cellar. The vines sit mid-slope on calcareous, marly soil, with further plots at San Marzano Oliveto and Nizza Monferrato. The range is built on Barbera, from a plain Barbera d'Asti to the Nizza wines La Cappelletta and Vigna dei Pilati, plus Dolcetto, Chardonnay and a Pinot Nero and Chardonnay Metodo Classico. Moscato has a central place: a Canelli DOCG and a sweet wine from dried grapes. Canelli is the historic centre of Asti's sparkling and Moscato production and sits within the Unesco-listed Langhe-Roero and Monferrato landscape.
