Ca' de Lion

Ca' de Lion

Ca' de Lion is the Ghione family's estate in Regione San Giovanni, Canelli, where Luigi Ghione set up the first commercial cellar in 1871. Five generations on, the family still makes and bottles everything on site. About ten hectares of Moscato vineyards in the Monferrato hills supply the sweet and sparkling side of the range: Canelli DOCG, Moscato d'Asti, a classic-method 1871 and the M.P.F. bottlings.

The rest of the list is wide. Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cortese make the whites; Barbera, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Grignolino the reds, with a Nizza aged in barrique, an Alta Langa, a Pinot Noir rosé and a red blend of Pinot Noir and Ruchè named after the 1650 farmhouse. Five hectares of hazelnuts were added more recently. Canelli is a Moscato town in the province of Asti.
