Borgo Moncalvo

Borgo Moncalvo

Borgo Moncalvo is a family farm in Loazzolo, in the Langhe Astigiane hills of the Asti province, whose history the family dates to 1866. Pierluigi and Graziella run the vineyards with their sons Andrea, the oenologist, and Luca, an engineer. The vines grow on terraces held up by dry-stone walls and steps built by hand, facing south and open to the Marino wind from the south; the oldest plots, which the family calls its heroic vineyards, can be visited.

Since 2016 Andrea and Luca have used Vinooxygen, a patented tank they developed that takes a wine through every stage without racking, which allows lower sulphites. The range covers Alta Langa sparkling wines from Pinot Nero, Moscato in three styles, Barbera d'Asti, Dolcetto d'Asti, a Piemonte Pinot Nero and a Loazzolo DOC dessert wine. Loazzolo is one of the smallest denominations in Italy.
