Alle Tre Colline
Albugnano sits in the Alto Astigiano, on the hills between Asti and Turin, and the Carossa family has farmed here for three generations. Edoardo and Orsolina ran the farm until 1999; their son Franco now works it with his wife and their three children. Family papers and the old land registry show Nebbiolo being grown and vinified on the property since 1803.
Of the roughly 35 hectares, most is vineyard, with hazelnut groves, arable land, orchards and vegetable plots alongside. The vines climb historic terraced slopes facing south, south-east and south-west, farmed with eco-friendly practices. The cellar bottles Albugnano and Albugnano Superiore from Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Asti, Freisa, Grignolino, Albarossa, a sweet Malvasia di Castelnuovo Don Bosco, three Chardonnays and a metodo classico. The farm also runs an agriturismo with rooms and a restaurant. Albugnano gives its name to a Nebbiolo-based DOC, and the Romanesque-Gothic Abbey of Vezzolano stands nearby.
