La Giribaldina Montedelmare

Barbera d'Asti DOCG from the Monte del Mare vineyard in the Val Sarmassa nature reserve, planted on sandy soil reclaimed from woodland.

Tasting notes

Dark ruby red; fruity notes of raspberry and mint on the nose; warm and velvety palate, full-bodied with light tannins on the finish.

Pairs well with

Appetisers, cured meats, first courses, white meats, freshwater fish, fresh cheeses.

Vineyard 'Monte del Mare', 3 hectares, planted 2000, 2003 and 2004, 5,800 vines/ha; yield about 80 q/ha (56 hl/ha). Planted on land reclaimed from woodland that had overtaken old Barbera rows; old wells and troughs from that past are still visible on site.
Vinification
Fermented in stainless steel for about 10 days at up to 28-30°C, with frequent irrigation of the must over the cap during maceration for maximum extraction. Aged 8 months in steel and 2 months in bottle.
