La Giribaldina Cala delle Mandrie

Nizza DOCG made from 100% Barbera grown in the Giribaldi vineyard, selected for its potential; aged 18 months in French oak and 10 in bottle for a wine built for long cellaring.

Tasting notes

Deep ruby red with violet tones; intense aromas of ripe cherry, plum and blackberry; rich and full-bodied on the palate, with balanced acidity and a long, persistent finish. The estate also produces a Riserva version of this wine with 12 additional months of bottle ageing.

Pairs well with

Braised meats, roasts, stews, game, aged cheeses.

Single vineyard 'Giribaldi', selected for Nizza production; 1.6 hectares, 5,600 vines/ha; yield about 50 q/ha (35 hl/ha).
Vinification
Fermented in stainless steel for about 18 days at up to 30-32°C, with frequent pump-overs (up to 12 a day) at peak extraction. After pressing, racked into 500-litre French oak casks where malolactic fermentation takes place; aged 18 months in oak and a further 10 months in bottle.
