La Giribaldina
La Giribaldina is a family winery in Calamandrana, in the Sud Astigiano hills south of Asti. Founded in 1995 inside Cascina Giribaldi, a farmhouse dating to the 1800s, the property was restored to house the cellar and a few guest rooms, keeping its original structure. Since 2006 it has been run by Emanuele Colombo, who oversees production himself.
Barbera is the backbone of the range, farmed on small plots around San Vito and Vaglio Serra: an everyday Barbera d'Asti, a certified organic bottling from the Cavalbianc vineyard in Agliano Terme, and a barrel-aged Superiore. The flagship is Cala delle Mandrie, a Nizza DOCG made since 2014 from 100% Barbera in a restricted zone around Nizza Monferrato. The range also includes a Sauvignon Monferrato Bianco, a Merlot-Barbera rosato, a Canelli Moscato and a Moscato Passito.
Calamandrana lies in the Belbo valley, inside the Nizza DOCG zone.
