Sottimano
Sottimano is a family estate in Neive, in the Cottà hamlet at the heart of the Barbaresco zone. Rino Sottimano began making wine here at the end of the 1960s, after training as an oenologist, buying the farmhouse that is still the winery's base along with land in Cottà. He and his wife Anna gradually added parcels in several of Barbaresco's crus, choosing from the start to vinify each vineyard on its own. Today Rino works alongside his children Andrea, Elena and Claudia across 19 hectares, many old vines planted in the 1970s and 80s, farmed under certified organic practice for over four decades. In the cellar they keep intervention to a minimum: long macerations, submerged cap and ageing in large oak barrels, aiming for wines that speak plainly of each cru. Neive and Treiso, where their vineyards lie, are two of the four communes of the Barbaresco DOCG zone, in the Langhe hills near Alba.
