Rocche Costamagna

Rocche Costamagna

Rocche Costamagna has made wine in La Morra since at least 1841, when Luigi Costamagna, son of the founder Francesco Antonio, received a royal licence to retail wine from his own vineyards. A gold medal at the Turin Expo of 1911 marked fifty years of uninterrupted production. The cellar was built just after the Congress of Vienna and still holds Slavonian oak barrels under brick and Langhe stone vaults.

The family's anchor is Rocche dell'Annunziata, a 3.20 hectare vineyard it has farmed since the 1800s and the source of the Barolo and the Bricco Francesco Riserva. Other wines include a La Morra village Barolo, Barbera d'Alba Superiore from 1.38 hectares in Verduno, Dolcetto, Arneis, a Nebbiolo rosé and a dosage zero Metodo Classico. The house speaks of sustainable viticulture for twenty years and of smooth, complex rather than muscular wines.

La Morra lies on the western side of the Barolo zone.
