Giulio Accornero e Figli

Giulio Accornero e Figli

Giulio Accornero e Figli has been growing grapes in Vignale Monferrato since the eighteen hundreds, when great-grandfather Bartolomeo first worked these hills. Giulio began bottling his own wine in 1957, and today his descendants Ermanno, Francesca and Giulia run the estate as its fifth generation. Their vineyards cover about 25 hectares around the cellar at Ca'Cima, Guyot-trained and hand-picked each September and October. In the cellar the wines still ferment with a submerged cap in stainless steel before ageing in 500-liter oak barrels and resting in bottle. The range centers on the grapes of Monferrato Casalese: Grignolino, Barbera del Monferrato Superiore, Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato and Malvasia di Casorzo, alongside a Timorasso from the Colli Tortonesi and a Metodo Classico sparkling wine. Vignale Monferrato sits in the Casalese hills, on marly, calcium-rich soils laid down when the area still lay under the sea, ground long valued here for full-bodied, age-worthy reds.
