Giovanni Viberti

Giovanni Viberti

Viberti is a family estate in Vergne, on the highest hill of the commune of Barolo. It grew around the Locanda del Buon Padre, bought by Cavaliere Antonio Viberti, who made wine for the inn's guests and bottled the first Barolo Buon Padre in 1923. Giovanni and his wife Maria took over in the late 1960s, and their youngest son Claudio now leads the estate, which farms more than 26 hectares.

The cellar works with rotary fermenters, shorter macerations and large unroasted oak casks. Barolo Buon Padre blends ten crus, while Bricco delle Viole, San Pietro, La Volta and Ravera are bottled as Riserva, alongside Monvigliero and San Lorenzo di Verduno. Since 2018 the family has added Timorasso in the Colli Tortonesi, Dolcetto in Dogliani and Barbera in the Asti hills. The inn is now the Ristorante Buon Padre.
