Colombo - Cascina Pastori
Colombo is a family estate on Cascina Pastori, in the Val Bormida hills of the Langa Astigiana, founded in the early 2000s by Antonio Colombo, a cardiologist from Varese, together with his children. The family farms ten hectares here, inheriting Pinot Nero and Chardonnay vines that earlier generations had planted in the valley nearly a century ago, some already 80 years old on arrival. The vineyards sit on sandstone marl of the Cessole formation layered with clay. Consulting oenologist Riccardo Cotarella has worked with the estate since 2010, and Colombo joined the Alta Langa DOCG Consortium in 2011. The range runs from still Pinot Nero under the Piemonte DOC, Maxima and Apertura among them, to Metodo Classico sparkling wines aged long on the lees, including Alta Langa DOCG blanc de blancs, blanc de noir and rosé. Bubbio lies in the Langa Astigiana, the part of the Alta Langa hills within Asti province, close to the Ligurian border.
