Clemente Guasti
Clemente Guasti opened his cellar in Nizza Monferrato just after the war, and his grandson Enrico Piantato has run it from the same street, Corso IV Novembre, since the family took it over again in 2020. The house is remembered for putting the vineyard of origin on Barbera labels early on, and for using steel tanks for sparkling wine in the 1950s. Today the range is wide: Barbera in several forms, from a Nizza Riserva and the Boschetto Vecchio cru to a Vinciarett rosé first made in 1960, plus Alta Langa, Moscato d'Asti, Gavi, Roero Arneis and Timorasso from Momperone. Barolo and Barbaresco come from Serralunga, Monforte (Ginestra) and Neive (San Giuliano). Nizza Monferrato sits in the Monferrato hills in the province of Asti, and the Nizza denomination for Barbera was recognised as a DOCG in 2014.
