Azienda Agricola Boveri Luigi

Azienda Agricola Boveri Luigi

Luigi and Germana Boveri bottled their first wine under their own label in 1992, moving the family holding away from bulk wine into focused winemaking. The estate covers 28 hectares around Costa Vescovato, in the hamlet of Montale Celli, an hour from Turin: 18 hectares of black grapes and 10 of white. Barbera, Bonarda and Croatina go into the reds, Cortese and Timorasso into the whites, with a small, newer planting of Moscato. Three wines, Boccanera, Casassa and Poggio delle Amarene, are named directly after the vineyards they come from. About half the production is exported, mainly to the Netherlands, and the couple's children, Francesco, Matteo and Sara, now also work at the winery.

Colli Tortonesi sits in the hilly eastern corner of Piemonte around Tortona, near where the region meets Liguria and Lombardy. Timorasso, nearly abandoned there by the mid-20th century, has become the area's signature white grape since local growers began replanting it in the 1980s.
