Vignassa
By Massimo Pastura - Cascina La Ghersa, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
A Barbera from the family's historic Vignassa vineyard, replanted in 1925 by Osvaldo and Luigi Bologna after phylloxera. First vinified separately in 1989. One of the estate's classic wines.
Tasting notes
Intense purple-red with garnet reflections, brilliant. Complex, deep and concentrated nose: blackberry, ripe cherry, tobacco, leather, liquorice and balsamic spices. Energetic and vigorous on the palate, voluminous yet elegant, with great softness. Very long, complex finish.
Pairs well with
All the great meat dishes: roasts, braises, game and wild boar with sauces; aged cheeses. Also a wine for contemplation. Piedmontese pairings: agnolotti quadri with mushroom ragu, Barbera stracotto, Raschera cheese.
