Muascae
By Massimo Pastura - Cascina La Ghersa, Asti, Piemonte, Italy
The name is the original form of Moasca. A Barbera d'Asti Superiore from the same 1.3 ha vineyard as Le Cave, about 2,200 bottles a year. First vintage 2004. Part of the Vigneti Unici selection.
Tasting notes
Intense purple-red with garnet reflections, brilliant. Complex, deep and concentrated nose that stays fresh: intense blackberry, blueberry juice, mint and juniper berries, pepper and a mineral vein. Complex and deep on the palate, dense and juicy yet elegant, with fluid, fragrant flavour and balancing freshness. Very long, complex, savoury and mineral finish.
Pairs well with
All the great meat dishes: roasts, braises, game and wild boar with sauces; aged cheeses. Also a wine for contemplation. Piedmontese pairings: oven-roasted veal shank, roast goose, Murazzano cheese.
